Mike has 30 years’ experience working in a variety of settings, predominantly in the Higher Education sector. He has led teams across diverse professional services portfolios in large complex institutions, including student administration, marketing, communications, student recruitment, admissions, alumni, fundraising and international relations.
Most recently, as Director of External Relations at Manchester Metropolitan University, Mike was responsible for a team of 300 colleagues and as a member of the University’s professional services leadership team, was involved in many aspect of the institution’s strategic and operational activity. Alongside his core responsibilities, Mike led a small team to create and deliver the University’s twice-yearly Professional Services Leadership Conferences, providing key development and learning opportunities for 180 senior colleagues.
Mike’s national profile includes a long stint as Executive Member of the British Universities International Liaison Association (BUILA), and of the British Council’s EducationUK Partnership Operating Board. He has presented at various conferences at home and abroad (Universities UK, BUILA, UCAS, British Council). He is a former governor and trustee at the Pinnacle Learning Trust in Oldham, and recently trained as a reading buddy for the charity ReadeasyUK.
