It sometimes feels feels to us that internal audit in UK higher education is coasting. The new regulatory environment should have triggered a significant adjustment in the approach to internal audit, but we see few signs of change. In this paper, we challenge individual higher education providers to set custom and practice aside and to rethink their approach to audit and assurance.
